Human Perspective - KOLI Environmental Arts Festival

Often nature is seen as something, which can be dominated, and in fact also the forest in the Koli National Park (Eastern Finland) would look quite differently without any human impact on it. A birch tree can be understood in its entirety but in the same time it is an accumulation of countless leaves, branches, roots and layers. We speak of a tree as a tree because we cannot take into account all the little details, the same way we talk about people, and also ourselves. We need to categorize, and organize. This is exactly what I do in this work, too. I organize a part of the forest and force human structure on it. From the backside though, the trees look completely untouched because the bark is only visible from one side of the artwork. Our perspective is only one out of a variety of many possible ones.
